Frequently asked questions
Can a student sign up or just show up?
No. Club Play is not a public walk-in event, including for a first visit. A recognized school club or homeschool group must first tell the League it is participating and approve the student's coverage route. Most students attend with a school-approved supervising adult; an own-parent route is available only where the applicable school and district policy affirmatively permit it.
Who can play?
Students attend through a recognized academic competition club at a Leon County high school or through a recognized homeschool academic group. The League does not require a separate player membership or advance roster.
What does a school have to do?
A school-authorized contact identifies the club and sponsor, requests participation, records the school-group adult arrangement, and states whether the applicable school and district policy permit the own-parent route. See the three school steps.
Does the club sponsor have to attend?
No. The supervising adult may be another person the school's own authority approves, and the approved adult may change from one Thursday to another. The sponsor is never the automatic fallback.
What does the supervising adult do?
The adult is present while the school's students are present and is responsible for arrival, departure, conduct, emergencies, and school communication. League officials run the games; the supervising adult does not have to moderate or keep score.
What does Club Play cost?
The Kickoff and all 6 scored Thursdays are free to students and schools. The two optional Saturday tournaments are separate events priced at cost, and a fee can be waived without an explanation.
Does the League collect a roster or family form?
No advance League roster or individual family form is required. Students check in through an approved school-group route or, where school and district policy permit, with their own parent. A school may still require its own permission or trip paperwork.
What happens on a Thursday?
Doors open at 6:00 PM, teams and rooms are posted at 6:20, matches begin at 6:30, and the building is clear by 7:50. Every checked-in student gets buzzer time in one scheduled match. See how a match works.
When and where is the first night?
The unscored Kickoff is Thursday, September 24. LCAL plans to hold it at Maclay School, 3737 N. Meridian Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32312, subject to final facility approval. Exact entrance, parking, and room instructions are sent through school contacts. See maps and arrival information.
What student information or photographs become public?
Public results use a student's chosen handle, school, and match statistics, never the student's full name. Identifiable photographs appear only after LCAL records the required school and family authorization; an authorized administrator can unpublish them immediately. Read the privacy policy.
What if my school is not listed?
It can still participate. Club Play is open countywide; founding membership is not an entry requirement. A club sponsor or other school-authorized adult can start a participation request. A request starts verification and is not permission for students to attend.
